Yes, I got the new Harry Potter book as soon as it came out (no BN party for me this year, though, since I didn't get off till 11pm- I did the Wal-Mart thing), but instead of making you dodge spoilers, all of my talk about the book can be found in a separate post, over here.  But on with the post...

Do you ever overhear a conversation somewhere while you're out and wish you could just join in on it?  While I was out shopping yesterday, I passed by a girl who was saying "No, I love Spike now.  I like Spike, I like everything Spike, I even like Spuffy."  I sooo wanted to just wander over to the rack of capri pants she was leaning on and join in, or at least throw in a "Mmm, James Marsters" for good measure, but I didn't want to freak anyone else, so I just kept walking.  I wish I'd at least stuck around long enough to hear the rest of what they were discussing, though.

El Nephew and I went to Ripley's Believe It Or Not museum on Sunday.  Our original plan was to hit the water park, but I couldn't find my pass, so the museum was the next best thing.  And voila, les photos:

One of the first things we saw was this snazzy carving of a cathedral, which was obviously kind of hard to get a good photo of.

I think that the man's face has a distinct look of "Dude, I just spent ten years on this?"

Fattest man in the world.  Um, on the left.

This snazzy statue was carved from camel bone.  Click the square below to see the full size photo.

I have no idea what this is, but I thought the artwork was cool.

I'll bet you never knew I had such long legs!  (note the super-ugly shoes!)

Robot made of disposable razors

This was made from $500,000 in real money, shredded.  Is anyone else thinking "THAT is worth 500k??"

Think Buffy had one of these?

Over by the restrooms is a huge display of butterflies.  I love the iridescent ones.

The best part is that you can take cool pictures with them

This clear one was my favorite.

Post-museum, we hit the pizza place again, where we once again got to delight in the "Boob lamps"

At one point, I took a bite of a mysterious piece of pizza, and proclaimed "I don't know what kind of pizza this is, but it is evil and weird!"  to which el nephew replied "It's Voldemort pizza?"  Does nerdyness run in the family?

The pizza-which-shall-not-be-named.

At the Ripley's gift shop, we picked up a box of Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans.  On the way home we surveyed the flavors available:

Me: “Bacon, black pepper, sardine, soap, booger, rotten egg… EWW!  BLUEBERRY!”  (pause)  “What?  The blueberry ones are gross!”

The kittens had a vet appointment this week to get their yearly shots.  We made arrangements to bring Lily in early in the morning, so she could get groomed (some of her fur was getting matted and icky), and then Lula at 1pm, so they could get their shots.  We could have dropped Lu off with Lily, but I didn't want to leave her there all day, thus the two trips.  Well, when we showed up at 1, the lady said that Lu was down to just be dropped off, and that nobody would even be in the office until 2.  I was pissed because I'd gotten up early to take her, and she'd been really unhappy about the car ride, so I really didn't want to leave her.  Mom was mad because this was already her 2nd trip to Branson that day, and now she'd have to make a third trip to come back and pick them up, because I would be at work.  Why couldn't they have told us that our 1pm appointment didn't exist when mom dropped Lily off?  And this is our 3rd year in a row of going there, and we've never just dropped them off- isn't the whole point of an exam for us to be there to see how things are?  So, we dropped them off, and I went to work, and mom went home, asking them to call her as soon as they were ready so she could come pick them up.  I was grumpy at work because I felt bad about leaving Lula there, and kept calling home to see if the vet's office had called yet.  Finally, mom called them at 5:45 to see what was up, and they said that the cats had been done for a while, and that the office closed at 6.  So, mom had to rush over (it's about a half hour away) to get them.  Grrr!  Time to switch vet offices, I think.
